GEOFF

“For me, art has to be fun, and nothing is more fun than hearing my music played by a group of my friends, and then hanging out afterwards.  Musicians took a real beating during COVID, and it made me appreciate how sacred the musician fellowship is. These days, I'm seeing how valuable the years of improvisation, and the musician work-ethic has been to the shift into life as a lawyer. Both fields require critical listening skills, and both fields are equally important to humanity."

Gallegos and his family have lived at the Studios at Walnut since 2010.   Geoff "Double G" Gallegos is an award-winning musician, producer, and composer, and currently, his passion for social justice has led him to a career as a civil rights/criminal defense attorney.  He is a Berklee College of Music graduate who majored in Jazz Composition when he figured out that as a baritone sax player, he needed to write himself into a gig. After years of touring, he co-founded daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra in 1999, and performed regularly at Grand Performances.  daKAH also contributed to the Los Angeles Opera's Ring Cycle of 2010.   He received a scholarship from Loyola Law School, concentrated on Public Interest Law, graduated in 2020 during the pandemic, and passed the October 2020 California Bar exam.  He continues to juggle a career in music, conducting orchestras for artists such as Common, and Kamasi Washington, and contributing arrangements for various recording projects.  He is currently producing a studio recording of his debut opera “Another Perfect Day,” commissioned by L.A. Opera, and based on a libretto by L.A. writers Velina Hasu Houston and Shishir Kurup. Ironically, the opera received its world premiere right down the street at A Noise Within Theatre.
